House Republicans Drop the Ball on Debt Ceiling

Sacramento, CA – Tea Party Express, the nation’s largest Tea Party political action committee, expressed their disappointment that House Republicans failed to use the debt ceiling vote to highlight out-of-control federal spending.

“The House Republicans missed an opportunity to demonstrate to the American people that federal spending is out-of-control and the national debt is nearing unsustainable levels,” said Tea Party Express’ Executive Director Taylor Budowich.

“We recognize that Speaker John Boehner was unable to corral a House majority to insist on some budget reform. Unfortunately, that means the GOP has lost yet another opportunity to prove to the American people that the Republican Party will fight to stop Washington’s reckless spending. Instead, they focus voters on the need to continue to defeat incumbents who are unwilling to stand up and fight for the very Americans that sent them to D.C. in the first place.

“The first thing Republican leaders should do tonight is send an apology letter to Senators Mike Lee and Ted Cruz for their inane criticism of their efforts to stop Obamacare. At least they had a plan to educate voters on the ills of Obamacare rather than just roll over. We were told that the battle would come on the debt ceiling, not on Obamacare. That fight has dissolved into a surrender without a shot being fired.

“The American people are looking for leadership in tacking the problems of high taxes, excessive government spending, over-regulation, and the anti-growth policies of the current Obama Administration. This would have been a good place to start making the case that the American economy should be and could be more robust,” concluded Budowich.
