Tea Party’s Richard Mourdock Defeats Senator Dick Lugar

Tea Party Express success from 2010 continues into 2012

Indianapolis, IN – Tea Party Express, the nation’s largest tea party political action committee, congratulates Tea Party Express-endorsed Richard Mourdock on his victory tonight over 36-year incumbent Senator Dick Lugar.

Tea Party Express Chief Strategist Sal Russo said, “We recognized last year that Richard Mourdock was the type of common-sense conservative that should be elected to the United States Senate. We joined with dozens of tea party groups throughout Indiana in endorsing his campaign and encouraging conservatives to get engaged in his political campaign. All of that effort paid off today with the Mourdock victory.

“The tea party is not only alive and well, but today we showed we are ready to achieve even more historic election victories in 2012. As we have been saying, tea party supporters are busy in campaigns for conservatives across the country. They have a focus now on winning elections, not just attending rallies and venting their frustration with the Washington insiders who continue to spend America into deeper financial woes.

“Whether that means voting out a 36-year incumbent republican in Indiana who has lost his conservative edge or a liberal freshman Democrat in Missouri, the tea party movement is poised for more success in 2012. Americans are tired of the out of control spending, unsustainable debt and growing intrusiveness of the federal government.

“In 2009 and 2010 the media bought into the false liberal narrative that the Tea Party was a fringe movement that would have no influence in the midterm elections. The reality was a truly historic conservativ victory across the country in 2010. We saw more republican state legislators elected since 1928 and more Republican congressional candidates elected since 1948. Since then the narrative has been the Tea Party is dead – wel,l what we saw tonight is undeniable evidence to the contrary.

“We congratulate Richard Mourdock on this extraordinary victory, and we look forward to continuing this wave of success throughout the year,” Russo concluded.

The Tea Party Express has endorsed five other U.S. Senate candidate, which include: Attorney General Jon Bruning in Nebraska, former Solicitor General Ted Cruz in Texas, State Treasurer Josh Mandel in Ohio, former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman in Missouri, and businessman Tom Smith in Pennsylvania.
